In accordance with the scientific and academic quality standards, the al-Abbas Holy Shrine is preparing to inaugurate the first university specialized in medicine, al-'Ameed Medical University. The first stage includes the classes of General Medicine, Dentistry and Nursing, with the opening of other medical classes in the future according to the plans developed by the Department of Education and Higher Education at the holy shrine. The opening of this university comes as part of the attention given by the al-Abbas Holy Shrine to the educational and academic aspects and its contribution to its advancement, as well as the success achieved by al-Kafeel College, in addition to the increasing demands from the outstanding students wishing to study in educational institutions affiliated with the holy shrine. The university is located on the road linking Najaf to Karbala on an area of 6.25 hectares and includes fifteen fully equipped and furnished classrooms, in addition to an independent building for the university’s presidency, housing complex for students, mosque for prayer for men and women, sport centers, medical center and a parking lot. Specialized committees of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research have visited the university and their observations were taken into account to make the university up to par with the approved international standards. The Department of Education and Higher Education at the al-Abbas Holy Shrine has confirmed that the university will open its doors to students at the beginning of the next academic year (2017 - 2018).
