Hospital in Karbala treats first stage breast cancer

After installing the latest global devices for the treatment of cancerous cases, including the linear radiation device, and the intensive training courses taken by the medical and therapeutic staff, al-Kafeel Specialist Hospital, affiliated to al-Abbas Holy Shrine, has successfully treated first stage breast cancer patients, preventing the patients the breast ablation or being subject to chemotherapy sessions.

Dr. Layth al-Sharifi, the hospital’s general surgery specialist, explained, “For the first time in Iraq, al-Kafeel Hospital has succeeded in treating ten first-stage breast cancer patients, thanks to the to the medical staffs’ efficiency, who have proved their ability to deal with such cases."

The patients were treated with the linear radiation device, used for the first time in the country.

"The linear radiation device, which has the ability to attack cancer cells with extreme accuracy, eliminating them without harming the healthy cells or organs adjacent to the malignant tumors, is manufactured by a specialized company in the world. Our hospital is the only hospital in Iraq to have this device, within the list of 100 countries that are working to treat breast cancer without surgical interventional or chemotherapy doses," added Sharifi.

Breast cancer is one of the deadliest diseases for women in the current time, causing 18.2% of all cancer deaths for women.
