Moon sighting expectations of Eid al-Fitr 1438

It is expected that the crescent moon of the month of Shawwal will be seen on the evening of Sunday Ramadan 29, 1438 AH (corresponding to June 25, 2017) with the naked eye in case of clear skies in the holy city of Najaf and at sunset at 7:12pm, according to a timetable published on the Supreme Religious Authority’s website.

The moon will last 37 hours and 37 minutes and with an elevation from the horizon 14 degrees and 8 minutes. The duration of its stay after sunset is one hour and 13 minutes, with a proportion of the moon's light of 3.59%, and in this case, the moon sighting is expected to be of high visibility.

 

UPDATE: It has been confirmed that the first day of Eid will be Monday, June 26, 2017.
