To celebrate the great Iraqi victory achieved by the army and Popular Mobilization Units (PMU) by liberating Mosul from the clutches of the terrorist ISIL gangs, the al-Abbas Combat Division of al-Abbas Holy Shrine has organized the Festival of the Victory Fatwa on August 5 in Baghdad University. A large number of religious, political and academic figures attended including Prime Minister Dr. Haidar al-Abadi and Ministers of Defense and Interior, Sheikh Khalid al-Mullah as well as members of martyrs' families.

The stately event kicked off with the recitation of verses from the Holy Quran and reciting al-Fatiha in memory of the martyrs of Iraq, followed by the Iraqi national anthem.

Supervisor of al-Abbas Combat Division Maitham al-Zaidi delivered a speech in which he highlighted Iraq’s role in fighting on behalf of all countries, stressing that “if it weren’t for the Iraqi sacrifices, ISIS would have reached and targeted other countries.”

Then a word by the Iraqi Prime Minister Haidar al-Abadi followed in which he asserted that the Fatwa of Sufficient Jihad became the Fatwa of Victory after the people of the country responded to the Fatwa of His Eminence Sayed Ali al-Sistani.

Al-Abadi said, “The victory achievers are the martyrs, the wounded and the fighters, as well as the engineering and medical staff, and anyone who contributed in the success of this war. We have won and we will continue the path of victory.”

“There is a strong cohesion between the people, our security forces and the state, and despite the great challenges faced after the liberation of the land, preparations are under way to liberate the entire country,” added the PM.

The festival witnessed other activities including a photo exhibition that was held on the sidelines, displaying the martyrs of the al-Abbas Combat Division.
