Tribes of Iraq respond to directives of Supreme Religious Authority and sign pledge agreement in Imam Hussein Holy Shrine

Under the auspices of the Imam Hussein Holy Shrine, the Tribal Affairs Directorate of the Ministry of Interior held the General Conference of the Iraqi Tribal Leaders under the slogan, "From Imam Hussein’s Values We Proceed to Refine the Community and the Tribal Customs, in Khatim al-Anbiya Hall on Tuesday May 23.

Chief Cleric of Imam Hussein Holy Shrine Sheikh Abdul-Mahdi al-Karbalaey said in his speech, “The tribes form a fundamental part in the Iraqi social structure and represent a great educational school for the noble principles and lofty values. It is essential that the tribes have a role in achieving social peace, overcoming crises and resolving disputes by peaceful means, especially with the sensitive and complex circumstances experienced by Iraq.”

Minister of Interior Qasim al-Araji said, “I call upon the honorable tribal leaders to do their utmost to restore the spirit of brotherhood among all members of the tribes and Iraqi factions, to safeguard the interests of the people and to support the security forces against immoral customs.”

In a word delivered on behalf of the tribes of the Southern provinces, Sheikh Sabah Badr al-Rameedh stated, “We have gathered to renounce the customs that are not related to the tribal system in response to the call of Grand Ayatollah Sayyid Ali Sistani.”

In a word delivered on behalf of the tribes of the Middle-Euphrates provinces, Sheikh Mued al-Samarmad stated, “Our country is facing many challenges that threaten the existence of society and the country, which oblige the leaders of society to move to correct the existence and future of Iraq."

In a word delivered on behalf of the tribes of the Western provinces, Sheikh Faisal Najris al-Quood stated, “We need to offer the interests of our people and our provinces to narrow biased interests, and distance ourselves from any statement or act that causes division between us, with the need to break the boundaries of certain customs and traditions.”

In a word delivered on behalf of the tribes of the Northern provinces, Sheikh Osman Rasheed al-Zangana stated, “Iraqi includes men and sheikhs capable of defending their nation and people, and the best proof of that are the remarkable victories of the Iraqi forces against ISIS terrorists.”

 

The tribal leaders signed a pledge agreement including directives for resolving tribal disputes peacefully and addressing negative phenomena in traditions and social norms.
